The Endeavour shuttle launched last night in gorgeous fashion. Canada sent up a two-armed robot (pictured below) and Japan sent the first part of their massive Kibo lab. But what I really like here is that when the Canadians named their robot, they winked at the difference between our and American spelling (centre/center, theatre/theater).
"Canada's $200 million-plus Dextre is designed to eventually take over some of the more routine outdoor maintenance chores from spacewalking astronauts. Dextre, short for dexterous and pronounced like Dexter, will join the space station's Canadian-built robot arm, already in orbit for seven years."
Dextre, pronounced
Dexter, from the word
Dexterous.
Love it.
